3-hour limit placed on airline passengers’ tarmac waits
The Department of Transportation orders airlines to allow passengers on domestic flights to leave airplanes if they have been stuck on the tarmac for three hours. Some safety exceptions are allowed.

Reporting from Washington – The U.S. Department of Transportation is ordering airlines to allow passengers to leave an airplane if it has been stranded on the tarmac for three hours, a response to recent flight delays that left passengers stuck on idle airplanes for long periods.
The time limit applies to domestic flights, but operators of international flights will be required to specify their own time limits for deplaning . For both domestic and international flights, the rule includes exceptions for instances in which deplaning would present safety or security concerns, or if it would be disruptive to airport operations.
The rule also requires that airlines post flight delay information on their websites and adopt customer service plans to address complaints relating to flight delays and cancellations. Airlines also will be required to provide food and water within two hours of a delay.
“Airline passengers have rights, and these new rules will require airlines to live up to their obligation to treat their customers fairly,” Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement.
The rule was sparked by a series of recent tarmac delays, such as one case involving a Minneapolis-bound flight that was diverted to Rochester, Minn., and sat idle on the tarmac for nearly six hours before passengers were allowed to leave the plane. The Transportation Department fined three carriers involved in the delay.
The department is considering rules that would require airlines to disclose baggage fees and to disclose the full price of advertised flights. Also under consideration are rules to require stronger reporting of and contingency plans for tarmac delays.

A luggage cart can be pushed or pulled, and oddly enough, those same experts say it is easier on the back if the load is pushed rather than pulled. They say this is because more of the leg muscles are used when a cart is pushed. But this is awkward with a luggage cart and would take me some getting used to, since I have been pulling my utility cart for years as a tag-along-behind device. You can decide how you are going to use your cart and, whether you push it or pull it, the luggage cart will still be carrying the load for you, which, in my mind, certainly saves the back.

@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn’t write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.

@Marco I know what your saying there . In todays economy its tough to find a company to work for that pays well and is consistent. I have discovered that if you just work hard and are consistent you can go places . Look at the poster of this article, they are oviously hard working and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
